TUCSON, AZ — Tucson police have identified the motorcyclist who died Monday about 3:30 p.m. after colliding with a 2018 Kia Soul in the 6500 block of E. Grant Road as Marco Antonio Sanchez, 26.
After the accident was reported, Tucson police officers from Operations Division East and TPD Traffic Investigations Unit detectives arrived on scene and conducted several interviews. Witnesses told police that the Kia driver was headed west on Grant Road and was trying to make a left turn into a business parking lot. Drivers in the center and median lanes on eastbound Grant Road had stopped so the Kia driver could turn left. At the same time, Sanchez was headed east on Grant Road, weaving in and out between traffic lanes, witnesses said. The motorcycle was in the eastbound curb lane as it approached where the Kia was making the turn. The motorcycle then struck the car, Tucson police reported.
Despite the aid given by Tucson Fire Department medics at the scene, Sanchez, who wore a helmet at the time of the accident, died at the scene.
