A TPD homicide investigation determined that Beem and Wise shared a history of domestic violence with each other during their on-again, off-again dating relationship of more than a year. Detectives also learned that Wise was taken that night to the home shared by Beem and a roommate. Beem and Wise at some point went for a snack in the kitchen, when police say Beem stabbed Wise in the chest with a knife for unknown reasons. Beem’s roommate was in the kitchen during the stabbing, and immediately called 911 and started administering medical aid to Wise.

One of the roommate’s family members was additionally at the crime scene when police arrived.
