TUSD To Receive $1.8M In Funding Based On AZ Merit Results

17 Tucson schools are set to receive some of the $1.8 million in state funding recently allotted to TUSD based on AZ Merit test scores.

TUCSON, AZ — Seventeen TUSD schools will be divvying up more than $1.8 million in funding from the Arizona Department of Education after each school earned a top 13 percent or top 27 percent seat on AZ Merit testing in math and language arts. The schools receiving part of this funding all have many students who use the Free and Reduced Lunch program too, a TUSD spokesperson reported:

  • Annie Kellond Elementary School — $174,148
  • Bloom Elementary — $61,237
  • Bonillas Elementary Basic Curriculum Magnet School — $78,648
  • Carillo Intermediate Magnet School — $109,710
  • Fruchthendler Elementary School — $73,156
  • John E. White Elementary School — $251, 512
  • Laura Banks Elementary School — $116,656
  • Mansfeld Middle Magnet School — $227,461
  • Marshall Elementary School — $56,952
  • Mission View Elementary School — $40,151
  • Sam Hughes Elementary — $75,525
  • Tolson Elementary School — $67,228
  • University High School — $245,733
  • Van Buskirk Elementary School — $54,797
  • W. Authur Sewel Elementary School — $57,954
  • W. V. Whitmore Elementary School — $61,808

“This is a big win for the students,” wrote TUSD Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo in a statement. “[It] provides evidence that our student achievement goals are realistic and are being successfully met.”
