5 Killed, 5 Injured In Arkansas Bus Crash With 18-Wheeler: Police

A school bus was crossing U.S. Highway 65 when it was struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler, sending both vehicles off the road.

CHICOT COUNTY, AR — Five people were killed and five more injured in a school bus crash near Dermott, Arkansas, on Monday afternoon, according to Arkansas State Police.

The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and State Highway 35, according to an Arkansas Department of Public Safety accident report.

Brayshawn Ranson, 19, Tommy Figures, 50, Terry King, 56, and Regina Jackson, 65, all from Dermott, were killed in the crash. Geraldine Prewitt, a 73-year-old from McGehee, also was killed in the crash, according to the report.

Five injured victims were taken to hospitals, which included McGehee Hospital, Chicot Memorial Medical Center and UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.

The bus was headed west on Highway 35 when it attempted to cross Highway 65, failing to cede the right of way to the 18-wheeler, which was heading south on Highway 65, police said. The 18-wheeler struck the right side of the bus, sending both vehicles off the west side of Highway 65, according to authorities.

The road conditions were dry and the sky cloudy when the crash occurred, according to the report.
