LOS ANGELES, CA — Jake and Romy Reiner, the adult children of Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner, spoke out for the first time Wednesday after their brother was arrested on suspicion of killing their parents.

"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," the statement reads. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead in their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon. Hours later, their son — Nick Reiner, 32 — was arrested on suspicion of their murders, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Jake Reiner, 34, and Romy Reiner, 27, continued their statement Wednesday asking for "respect and privacy."

"We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave," the statement reads.

Romy Reiner is the one who found her parents' bodies, ABC News reported.

A massage therapist was scheduled for an appointment at the Reiners' home Sunday. When she got no answer at the door, she called Romy Reiner, who quickly came to her parents' house, the New York Times reported.

She fled the house after encountering her father's body while her roommate called 911. She did not see her mother's body in the house and later learned of her death from paramedics, the Times reported.

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama had planned to see the Reiners on the day they were found dead, the former first lady said earlier this week.
