Arkansas State Dining Team Keeps Students Fed During Rare Snowstorm
Dedicated dining staff ensures students on campus remain well-fed despite icy roads and freezing temps

While classes at Arkansas State University came to a halt due to hazardous winter weather, the dedicated dining services staff ensured students on campus remained well-fed. Despite icy roads and freezing temperatures, Acansa Dining Hall and several retail locations continued serving meals during the February 18-20 snowstorm.
Snowfall of this magnitude is uncommon in Jonesboro. According to the National Weather Service, the city averages only 4.2 inches of snow per year, making extended closures like this a rare occurrence. The latest storm prompted class cancellations beginning at 12:30 p.m. on February 19, with students remaining out until the morning of February 21.
Throughout the storm, Acansa Dining Hall operated daily from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., ensuring students had access to hot meals. Additionally, Howl’s Grill, Starbucks, and Godfather’s Pizza remained open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 19 and 20, offering alternative dining options despite the difficult conditions.
