PROVIDENCE, RI — The Providence police manhunt continued Monday for the gunman who killed two Brown University students and injured nine others in a Saturday afternoon mass shooting with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information on the shooter.

The information must lead to the arrest and conviction of the shooter, said FBI Boston Special Agent in Charge Ted Docks, who told of his belief that the killer remains "armed and dangerous."

The Providence Police Department also released new photos and video of a person of interest wanted in connection with the investigation.

The person of interest was captured on video in the area of Hope and Benevolent streets about two hours before the gunman opened fire shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.

Police had already released one new video Monday afternoon before supplementing it with the subsequent video and photos.

"We are sharing a video of a person of interest and plan to release additional video as part of the ongoing investigation," the department posted to its Facebook page. "If you recognize this individual, please contact our Tip Center online at fbi.gov/BrownUniversityshooting or call 401-272-3121."

The department also said it is actively seeking out video in hopes of identifying the shooter.

The American Uzbekistan Association identified one of the slain students as MukhammadAziz Umurzokov.

"MukhammadAziz was known for his sharp intellect, kind heart, and quiet willingness to help anyone in need," the American Uzbekistan Association said. "He carried himself with humility and compassion, earning the respect and affection of those around him. His curiosity, discipline, and generosity reflected both his character and the values of the community that raised him."

The other student killed Saturday has been identified as Ella Cook by her home church, Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, during Sunday morning service.

Nine others were injured in the gun attack at the Barus & Holley engineering and physics building shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.

The attack occurred inside a final exam review session for an economics class, Brown President Christina Paxson confirmed at a news conference earlier Sunday.

Investigators were not immediately sure how the shooter got inside the first-floor classroom. Outer doors of the building were unlocked, but rooms being used for final exams required badge access, Smiley said.

The shooter was described as a male dressed in all black, officials had said during a Saturday evening news conference. He was spotted leaving the Hope Street side of the building following the shooting, officials said.

A person of interest detained following Saturday's deadly shooting spree at Brown University was released, the school said in a message late Sunday night.

"Providence police announced late on Sunday night that they have released the individual they had detained in connection with the investigation into the shooting on the Brown campus on Saturday, Dec. 14, which claimed the lives of two Brown students and injured nine others," said the message posted to the university's website shortly before midnight.

Authorities on Sunday disclosed their intention to release the man.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said late Sunday the move was "likely to cause fresh anxiety for our community."

"We believe that you remain safe in our community, though we will continue to have an enhanced police presence throughout the city and on the Brown campus," Smiley said.

Col. Oscar Perez, the Providence police chief, said law enforcement did not have enough evidence to prosecute the person they detained.

"The Rhode Island Attorney General (Peter F. Neronha) stated definitively in a news media event hosted by the City of Providence that “there is no basis” to consider the released individual a person of interest," the message from the university said.

Timothy Rondeau, the spokesman for the attorney general, said in a Monday morning email he had no updates to provide.

The East Providence police increased its presence at schools across that city Monday, the Department posted to its Facebook page.

"This is a proactive measure to enhance safety and support our students, staff, and families," the post said. "Please rest assured, there is no threat or concern at this time. Our dedicated law enforcement is simply here to help ensure a safe environment for learning."

McKee canceled his holiday open house at the Rhode Island State House in the wake of Saturday's mass shooting at Brown University.

"Out of respect for the Providence community and the victims of the horrific shooting at Brown University, the Holiday Open House scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Rhode Island State House has been canceled," the governor said in a media release.

"Our hearts and prayers continue to be with everyone impacted by this tragedy," he said.

Anyone with potentially relevant videos or photos was asked to upload them to fbi.gov/brownuniversityshooting or call 401-272-3121, according to Smiley.
