- Twelve Fort Smith residents have applied for the vacant Zone III position on the Fort Smith Public Schools Board of Education, following the resignation of Dee Blackwell due to family health challenges. The applicants include individuals from diverse backgrounds such as healthcare professionals, educators, pastors, and community service leaders, all expressing their commitment to the betterment of the school district and the education of Fort Smith's students. The FSPS school board will hold a special meeting on July 12 to discuss the board vacancy. (talkbusiness.net)
- Fort Smith police apprehended an individual for "commercial burglary" at First National Bank on Saturday, Jul. 8. Although the exact timing of the incident remains undisclosed, the crime occurred at the intersection of 6th Street and Garrison Avenue, as reported by the police at 11:55 p.m. The suspect is now in custody, and further details will be disclosed as soon as they become available and appropriate. - Next Step Homeless Services (NSHS) in Fort Smith is raising $4 million to develop a new central campus featuring 30 tiny homes for transitional living at the corner of South 6th and I Streets. The initiative aims to address the lack of housing options for the homeless population and provide a pathway out of homelessness through NSHS's program.
