- Extreme heat is moving into the Fort Smith area until Saturday. The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning beginning on Thursday as high temperatures reach over 100 degrees. The heat is on as well on Friday with over 100-degree temps before settling down into the 90s on Saturday. Residents are urged to drink plenty of water and stay indoors as much as possible. - A man was shot and killed while breaking into a residence on Seven Oaks Drive Wednesday evening. When police arrived at the house, they found the man with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Officials said the man was fatally shot while allegedly breaking into the home. (Subscription: Arkansas Democrat-Gazette)
- The movie and television studio planned for the Chaffee Crossing area is put on hold for now. The Fort Chaffe Redevelopment Authority approved a sale for TGE Global Entertainment to build a $30 million film and tv studio in December 2021. The studio was not able to secure financing for the project. TGE, based in Los Angeles, had planned to make a movie about legendary Deputy U.S. Marshall Bass Reeves that would be filmed in the Fort Smith area. The company said it is still interested in building a studio in Fort Smith and is attempting to get financing for the project. (talkbusiness.net)

- As summer is underway, the Fort Smith Police Department wants to remind parents that a curfew is in place for individuals under the age of 18. It is against the law for them to be outdoors on city streets or other outdoor public spaces from after 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and after 12:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings.
