Here are the top three stories in Fort Smith today:
- On Tuesday, Jun. 20, the Fort Smith community started a free storm debris pick-up service. This service will continue until Friday, Jun. 23, and the community has been directed to leave any debris near their curb or road for the clean-up crew to pick up easily. Residents are advised to call Solid Waste Services at (479) 784-2350 if they have items smaller than four feet in length and under 50 pounds. For larger debris such as trees and trunks, residents will need to call the Streets Department at (479) 784-2360. (Subscription: Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette)
- Fort Smith Public School District Board President Dee Blackwell submitted her resignation on Monday, Jun. 19. Blackwell started her career with the district in March 2020; however, due to family health reasons, she has to say her goodbyes. The board meeting took place at 5:30 p.m. at the FSPS Service Center, but you can still watch the live-streamed video here. (KNWA)
- The Westphal Family made a 5.6-acre land donation located near the US Marshal's Museum in order to build the new Fort Kids Children's Museum. The museum's board is very grateful for the donation, and they encourage anyone in the community to donate not only their money, but also their time and talent if they are interested in helping this children’s museum come to life. The goal behind this project is to have a space for children to have a hands-on learning experience with a multitude of exhibits that will allow them to explore. (KFSM 5Newsonline)
