Here are the top three stories today in Fort Smith:

  1. The Fort Smith Board of Directors met this week and unanimously passed a resolution asking the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority (FCRA) to donate the Deer Trails Golf Course property. The FCRA has owned the property for years and it has been on sale since May 11 but not actively marketed, according to Daniel Mann, FCRA director and CEO. City officials say that if they are granted permission to own the property, it will remain a 119-acre golf course rather than being sold to developers looking to build. (talkbusiness.net)
  2. The City of Fort Smith Parks and Recreation Department announces the continuation of construction at Carol Ann Cross Park. Due to the construction, a portion of the walkway will be inaccessible. There will be new restrooms, a pedestrian bridge, and a fishing pier installed. (City of Fort Smith, Arkansas via Facebook)
  3. Don't miss this year's Glow Fishing events! On May 25, Jun. 15, and Jul. 27 at 8:00 p.m., the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center will host night fishing events at Wells Lake, Torraine Lake, and Van Buren City Pond. Registration is required. Bring your own glow sticks and fishing gear. (Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center via Facebook)
