- The United States Marshals Museum officially commenced public operations in Fort Smith this Saturday. The opening marked a 16-year wait since Fort Smith was chosen as the museum's location. This development is a significant milestone for the city and the U.S. Marshals Service. (KATV)
- The Fort Smith Public School District has announced a search for qualified individuals to join its Board of Education following the recent vacancy of the Zone 3 seat on Jun. 19. According to district regulations, the seat must be occupied within a 30-day window. Residents of Zone 3 who wish to contribute to the local education system are encouraged to apply, with further details available through the district's channels. (KNWA)
- Neil Mehta, a resident of Fort Smith, is facing federal charges for possession of unregistered explosives and evasion of authorities, with his trial now scheduled for Oct. 30, 2023, following a postponement by Judge P.K. Holmes to allow adequate time for discovery. This marks the second delay in Mehta's trial, who pleaded not guilty to the charges. His arrest occurred after an FBI-led search of his home in January 2023, during which Mehta allegedly fled, with the assistance of his family, before being apprehended in Austin the following month under a false identity.
