Pine Bluff resident confronts car thief, ends in gunfire (katv.com) — Pine Bluff police say a resident confronted a suspected car thief outside her home Sunday night, and the encounter ended with the man being shot and wounded. Officers later found the 23-year-old suspect nearby and took him to Jefferson Regional for treatment. The stolen gun is still missing, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact PBPD or leave an anonymous tip.

Arkansas unemployment rises slightly, Jefferson County among hardest hit (kark.com) — Jefferson County, including Pine Bluff, is facing one of Arkansas’ highest unemployment rates, now 6.3% compared with lower rates in nearby counties. Local economic leaders are banking on projects like Saracen’s new casino hotel, downtown redevelopment, and worker training programs to attract employers, counter negative perceptions of Pine Bluff, and create better-paying jobs for residents.
3. 3D scan kickstarts restoration plan for historic Saenger Theatre in Pine Bluff (kark.com) — A long-awaited 3D scan of Pine Bluff’s historic Saenger Theatre is now complete, giving city-funded restoration plans their first concrete blueprint. Architects will use the $13,000 scan to design a full renovation that could return the century-old downtown landmark to life as a major performing arts venue and potential catalyst for revitalizing Pine Bluff’s cultural scene.
4. Pine Bluff Man Charged With Threatening Store Clerk During Dispute (deltaplexnews.com) — A Pine Bluff man has been given a $2,500 bond after police say he threatened a store clerk during a dispute at the Shoe Show on South Olive Street. A Jefferson County judge found probable cause for a terroristic threatening charge and ordered him to avoid contact with the clerk. The case is set to return to court in late January.
5. Baseball Announces 2026 Schedule (lindenwoodlions.com) — College baseball fans in Pine Bluff can look ahead to Lindenwood opening its 2026 season with a four-game road series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff starting February 13. The Lions then return home for a busy slate that includes Murray State, Missouri, and a full Ohio Valley Conference schedule leading into the league tournament in Illinois.
