Earthquakes Strike Near Grapevine, Isla Vista

The two earthquakes struck Thursday morning as wildfires further south continued to ravage the Los Angeles area.

CALIFORNIA — Multiple 3.0-magnitude earthquakes struck south-central California on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, north of the area being ravaged by deadly wildfires.

The first was in rural Kern County, about 14 miles northwest of Grapevine, and hit around 11:23 a.m. The second was off the Pacific Coast, roughly 11 miles south-southeast Isla Vista in Santa Barbara County, and struck at about 11:27 a.m.

3.0-magnitude earthquakes are considered minor and are typically felt by many but rarely cause damage.
