53 CA Brewers Win Big At Great American Beer Festival

CALIFORNIA — Twenty-one brewers in California left the 40th annual American Beer Festival with 26 gold medals this year. Some 53 Golden State breweries won gold, silver and bronze medals.

The nation’s largest beer festival wrapped its 2024 competition last week, awarding 325 medals to 273 breweries and cideries nationwide. This year also marked a first for the prestigious contest with the inclusion of cider and canned cocktails.

In California, one cidery was recognized, winning two gold medals and one silver. Gowan's Heirloom Cider, in Philo, won gold medals for its Rosé and Classic Dry ciders. It also won a silver medal for its Macintosh cider.

The festival is held in Denver, Colorado every year, allowing thousands of people to try hundreds of competing beers ranging in flavor from hoppy to funky. This year, the festival hosted hundreds of breweries at the Colorado Convention Center from Oct. 10 through Oct. 12.

Breweries earned accolades across various categories, from American pilsners to sours, coffee beers, non-alcoholic brews and beyond.

Among California's most notable wins was a gold medal in the West Coast IPA category, won by Trademark Brewing for its Codebreaker. Meanwhile, Pizza Port - Imperial Beach clinched a gold medal for its Imperial Stout, Indie Roo.
