Founded in 1911 by Danish immigrants, Solvang is a touristy enclave with Danish bakeries, Danish-themed hotels and even a Hans Christian Andersen Museum.

The town is known for its annual Julefest, a month-long holiday celebration that fuses Danish tradition with the American celebration of Christmas. This year, the fest runs from Nov. 26 to Jan. 6.

This Southern California city happens to be one of the most eventful and bustling places during the holiday season. It's home to Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth, which hosts the Disney Festival of Holidays, A Christmas Fantasy Parade and more.

Those who don't want to pay for a ticket to the famous Orange County park can take a stroll through Christmas-themed Downtown Disney. Entry is free and there are festive eats, spirits and treats to consume amid vibrant decorations.

3. Big Bear Lake

Downtown, walk beneath festive lights or hop into a horse-drawn carriage to tour the lake.

4. Ferndale

This quaint little town in Northern California is known for its iconic Victorian architecture. It is also home to the tallest Christmas tree in America.

Every year, the town also hosts a lighted tractor parade in Ferndale's Victorian Village on historic Main Street.

5. Temecula

From 'Temecula On Ice' to the Chanukah Celebration — this beautiful city comes alive during the holiday season with charming decor and twinkling lights throughout town.

Plus, Christmas in Temecula has gotten a bit sweeter since the Hibbard family came to town. Last year, the "Candy Cane Tree on Tylman Street" won the best theme for the local holiday contest, and in 2022, their display has never looked brighter.

Starting the first day of December and lasting until New Year’s Eve, visitors can drop by the Hibbard family's front yard and collect a candy cane from the enormous tree. Read more about that here.

6. South Lake Tahoe

Surround yourself with snow-capped mountains and the crystalline waters of South Lake Tahoe when you visit this beautiful destination this holiday season.

Check out the lights downtown, build a snowman, go sledding or go to a tubing park.

7. Newport Beach

Another city in Orange County also made the cut for one of the best places to visit during the holiday season. From the quaint seaside village's decorations to the 90-foot Christmas tree at Fashion Island, Newport Beach has so much to offer.
