7 CA ZIP Codes Among The 10 Most Expensive In The Country

In California's most expensive neighborhoods, typical home values soar well into the millions, according to data from Zillow.

CALIFORNIA — California is an expensive place to live, but even Golden State residents used to the hefty price tag of California dreaming might be surprised at how expensive housing has become. The top two most expensive ZIP codes in the nation and 70 percent of the top 10 priciest ZIP codes are all in California.

The average California home was valued at nearly $750,000 at the end of June, but in some of the Golden State's most expensive ZIP codes, the typical home can cost 10 times as much, according to data from real estate marketplace Zillow.

Home values vary from county to county, town to town – and ZIP code to ZIP code— with monthly Zillow data showing which neighborhoods have the highest price tags.

Patch looked at the data from dozens of California's costliest neighborhoods, finding one ZIP code on the San Francisco Peninsula well ahead of the rest. In Atherton, one of the nation's highest-earning cities, a typical home in the 94027 ZIP code was valued at an eye-popping $7.5 million at the end of June. That's the most expensive ZIP code in the country and more than $2 million ahead of California's second place: Beverly Hills' famous 90210.

It's a closer race for the rest of the top 10 within the state. Values range from $3.9 million to $4.3 million, including three ZIP codes in Newport Beach. Even the "low" end of the list is nothing to sneeze at, with values in several other ZIP codes around Los Angeles and San Diego counties landing close to $2 million.
