CALIFORNIA — Advance Auto Parts plans to close 138 of its California stores and distribution centers, leading to a loss of over 1,600 jobs statewide, according to filings with the state's labor agency.
The auto parts retailer, which has around 5,000 stores, earlier this month announced it would close 500 corporate stores, 200 independently owned locations and four distribution centers nationwide by the middle of next year.
"The company is executing a strategic plan to improve business performance with a focus on core retail improvements," executives said in a release announcing its Q3 earnings.

Founded in 1932, the chain over the last year has been engaged in a turnaround plan in an effort to return to profitability and reverse sliding sales, CNN reported.
Recent filings with the state analyzed by Patch show Advance Auto Parts plans to close 136 stores in California along with distribution centers in Bakersfield and San Bernardino. The company's website shows 139 total locations in California, suggesting the possibility that the Advance Auto Parts may completely pull out of the Golden State.
