CA Drivers Fifth Most Likely To Be Stuck In Traffic: Ranking

California was among the top five states with the highest amount of vehicles per 1,000 miles of road in a recent study.

CALIFORNIA — California was ranked among the top five states where drivers are most likely to be stuck in traffic, according to a recent study.

Injury lawyers Bader Scott used 2022 data from the Federal Highway Administration and Bureau of Transportation Statistics to determine which states had the highest amount of vehicles per 1,000 miles of road.

California was fifth on the list, with 119,204 vehicles for every 1,000 miles, according to the study, which noted the state had the most road miles in the ranking at 261,058 and that it had the highest number of registered vehicles at about 31.1 million.

The Golden State ranked between Massachusetts at fourth, with 120,648 vehicles per 1,000 miles, and Maryland at sixth, with 107,223 vehicles per 1,000 miles.

Hawaii was ranked first on the list with 200,973 vehicles for every 1,000 miles, followed by New Jersey at second with 135,921 vehicles per 1,000 miles and Florida at third with 122,734 vehicles per 1,000 miles.

“While there are many states you might expect to see on this list, like more populated ones including Florida and California, to see Hawaii so far ahead of every other state is surprising considering it lacks road connections to other states,” attorney Seth Bader of Bader Scott said in a news release.

The national average for vehicles per 1,000 miles was 47,320, according to the study.
