CA Ranked No. 1 Shopaholic State In America
Californians spent more per capita on clothing and footwear than any other state.
CALIFORNIA — Californians are America’s biggest shopaholics, according to a recent study.
The study analyzed 2022 data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis on personal consumption expenditure per capita for clothing and footwear in each state. It was conducted by QR Code Generator.
California ranked No. 1, with a total expenditure per capita of $1,971, followed by Wyoming with $1,870 per capita and New Jersey with $1,868 per capita.

The top 10 states were:
- California, $1,971
- Wyoming, $1,870
- New Jersey, $1,868
- New Hampshire, $1,708
- New York, $1,700
- Colorado, $1,690
- Illinois, $1,653
- Oregon, $1,646
- Massachusetts, $1,574
- Connecticut, $1,534
“It’s expected that giants such as California and New York find themselves in the ranking, highlighting their residents' appetites for the latest fashion trends,” a QR Code Generator spokesperson said in a news release. “However, it’s interesting that less populated states like Wyoming and New Hampshire have made the top ten.”

West Virginia was last on the list, with only $1,041 per capita spent on clothing and footwear in 2022.
