CALIFORNIA — Nearly half of Californians don’t know their state motto, so it’s perfectly fine if you weren’t aware that “Eureka” is the official battle cry.
Just 53 percent of respondents to a non-scientific poll of 5,668 Americans by SolitaireBliss.com correctly identified California’s state motto. One in five thought it was “Gold In These Lands,” and another fifth thought it was “A Land Of Discovery.” Six percent said it was “Keep Searching.”
California residents ranked 32nd in the nation in their knowledge of their state motto.
