MADERA, CA — A man who investigators say expressed anger with pharmacies opened fire in a California Walgreens late last month and killed an employee, according to police and news reports.
Narciso Gallardo Fernandez, 30, was arrested after he surrendered in a Walgreens parking lot in Madera after police received a 911 call about a shooting, according to the Madera Police Department.
The shooting was reported at 9:35 p.m., just before the store closed on March 31, police said.

When officers arrived, they found an employee inside suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures, Erick Valazquez died of his injuries, according to multiple reports. Other people were also found sheltering in place inside the store, including an employee who was hiding in the bathroom, KTLA reported.

Two other employees were fired at but were able to run out of the store.
Lt. Josiah Arnold told NBC News that Fernandez was standing at the back of his vehicle in the parking lot reloading his handgun when officers arrived.
Arnold believes "he intended to continue to shoot at people."
While an official motive remains unclear, police told NBC News that Fernandez "made some statements about being angry with pharmacies."
It is unclear why he chose that store to open fire at since he lives about an hour away from Madera and has no known connections to the city or the victim, Arnold told the station.
On Wednesday, Fernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges, including murder and attempted murder with enhancements. His bail is set at $3 million, ABC30 reported.
