Meat Listeria Recall Expands To Most CA Grocery Chains
A nationwide recall for ready-to-eat deli meat has impacted many large grocery chains in California, the FDA says.

CALIFORNIA — A nationwide recall for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to Listeria contamination has expanded to some of California's largest grocery chains, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
On Tuesday, the FDA announced that deli items available at Safeway, Vons, and other grocery stores throughout California have been recalled. The products contain chicken recalled by precooked meat and poultry producer BrucePac.
More than 11 million pounds of meat products are now included in the recall, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

"FSIS wants to make sure consumers are aware that some of the recalled products could bear a different establishment number on the label due to further distribution and processing by other establishments," the agency said.
The items were produced between June 19 and Oct. 8, federal health officials said, and were sold at several chain grocers including Walmart, Aldi, Costco, Trader Joe's, Albertson's and Pavilions. Stores located in 21 states, including California, had these products available for purchase, officials said.
"Consumers who have purchased these items are urged not to consume these products and to dispose of them or return the items to their local store for a full refund. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider," the FDA said.
Listeriosis is a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with listeria, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Listeria infections are rare, the agency said, but can result in a serious illness or death.
Listeria is especially harmful to pregnant women, people 65 and older or anyone with a weakened immune system.
Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and
convulsions. Pregnant women: Pregnant women typically experience only fever and other non-specific symptoms, such as chills and headaches.
