Over 30 CA Companies Among 2021’s Best Workplaces For Parents
Great Place To Work teamed up with Maven to determine which employers set the bar for attracting working parents.

ACROSS CALIFORNIA — Millions of U.S. workers left their jobs in recent months, burned out and in search of better opportunities. In many cases, these workers were parents. A disproportionate number were young and women of color.
Now, these parents are looking for their next job. Some are considering returning to work after leaving during the pandemic. As a result, pressure on California companies to appeal to these parents is more intense than ever.
Luckily, several companies in California already are setting a high bar when it comes to supporting workers with children.

Cisco in San Jose came in at No. 1 on this year’s list. Cisco employs about 37,988 across the country.

"I am thankful that the Cisco management is very well connected and open with employees," one parent said. "Being a single parent, I always feel very secure, and receive excellent support from management to manage my work life balance."
Also included on this year’s list were Intuit Inc. in Mountain View at No. 7; Orrick in San Francisco, which came in at No. 10; Adobe Systems Incorporated in San Jose and Salesforce in Santa Clara, ranked No. 12 and No. 14, respectively. Several other California-based companies also earned spots down the list.
According to the report accompanying this year’s list, nearly 11.5 million people quit their jobs in April, May and June combined. After surveying workers, Great Place To Work learned that almost 1 in 4 working parents were suffering from burnout.
The report also found that companies offering “special and unique” benefits are two times more likely to retain employees with children.
Ultimately, researchers found the “Great Resignation” is, at its core, a “crisis of recognition.” In other words, working parents who feel empowered and included in a company's culture are far more likely to stay with their employer.
In the end, companies that think about an employee’s holistic experience — the challenges at home, the opportunities at work — will fare far better in the post-pandemic economy, the report notes.
