OROVILLE, CA — A small plane crashed Thursday at an airport in Oroville and two people died, Cal Fire said.

Firefighters were at the airport around 1 p.m. Thursday, Cal Fire tweeted. The crash is under investigation.

Teams from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were headed to the airport as well as part of the investigation, Cal Fire said.

Photos taken at the scene and posted on social media showed about a dozen first responders at the scene, including a fire truck and sheriff's vehicles. The front of the plane appeared to be smashed into the ground, with its tail and body in the air.

The names of the victims weren't immediately known.

The plane is registered as a Beechcraft Musketeer 19A, a fixed wing, single-engine aircraft built in 1969. It was registered to an Oroville man, FAA records showed.

Oroville is about 60 miles north of Sacramento.
