MAMMOTH LAKES, CA — Patch reader Deborah Johnson sent in this lovely image she captured of Convict Lake.

The lake in Mono County in the Sierra Nevada has turquoise-blue waters and was carved out of glaciers. Its name is attributed to a fateful day in 1871 when a group of escapees from a prison in Carson City, Nevada took refuge near the lake until a posse found them and a fatal shootout took place.

Thanks so much for sharing, Deborah!
