See How CA Counties Voted In Trump Vs. Harris Race
Preliminary data showed more than half of California's counties favored Donald Trump this election, including nine that flipped red.

CALIFORNIA — California was called for Kamala Harris as soon as the polls closed Tuesday night, but a closer look at statistics shows that the state is not as solidly blue as some might believe.
While Kamala Harris was 17 points ahead of Donald Trump Wednesday, preliminary results showed voters in 32 of California's 58 counties favored Donald Trump. If the results hold, that would mean nine counties flipped red in 2024, up from the 23 that favored Trump in 2020, and seven more than the 25 that voted red in 2016.
Orange County, notably, switched from blue to red in 2024, according to the preliminary data. In 2016, repelled by Trump's candidacy, the county went for the Democratic candidate for the first time since FDR. Despite the region's shifting demographics, the GOP was able to reclaim this birthplace of modern conservatism Tuesday.

According to the Secretary of State's Office, all of California's 24,811 precincts were reporting partial results as of Wednesday morning. Preliminary tallies will continue to change in the coming days as more vote-by-mail and provisional ballots are processed and counted. County elections offices have until Dec. 3 to report final results for the presidential race to the Secretary of State, and until Dec. 6 for all other contests.
The Secretary of State will certify the election on Dec. 13.
