During finals week at California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM), Dining Services hosted two late-night snack events to help students stay fueled and focused during their long study sessions. From December 8–14, these events provided nourishment and a sense of community during one of the most stressful times of the semester.

Late-Night Breakfast: December 9

On December 9, students enjoyed a hearty Late-Night Breakfast in the USU Ballroom. The event, which ran from 7:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., featured a delicious spread of scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, orange juice, and hot cocoa. Students flocked to the first-come, first-served event, taking a much-needed break from their studies.

The success of these events was a result of collaboration among Jason Schreiber, Dean of Students at CSUSM, and Deanne Ellison, Executive Director of CSUSM. Paul Reardon, General Manager of Sodexo, and Executive Chef Robert Garrity played pivotal roles in ensuring the food was plentiful and delicious. Reflecting on the events, Chef Garrity said, "This was a fun and important event to feed students and give them levity during a stressful week."

Why This Mattered

Finals week is a critical time for students, and these events not only provided nourishment but also fostered a sense of community and relaxation. They demonstrated CSUSM’s commitment to supporting its students academically and emotionally.

CSUSM students who attended these memorable finals week traditions expressed appreciation for the opportunity to enjoy great food and connect with peers during a challenging time.
