These CA Cities Are Among The Healthiest In The U.S.: Report
Six of the top 20 healthiest cities are located in the Golden State, according to a recent study by Forbes Advisor.
CALIFORNIA — Six in 10 American adults suffer from chronic health conditions, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, but some U.S. cities have a lower rate of chronic disease than others due to healthy lifestyle habits.
Some of the healthiest cities in the country are in California, according to a new study.
Forbes Advisor compared the 46 most populated cities with available data across eight key metrics. Analysts found that six of the top 20 healthiest cities are located in the Golden State.

San Jose ranked as the healthiest city in the country, according to the report, with low rates of opioid overdoses and obesity.
San Diego ranked fourth and San Francisco ranked sixth, according to the study. Oakland ranked 13th, Los Angeles ranked 15th, and Long Beach ranked 17th.

Detroit, Michigan, ranked as the least healthy city, according to the report, with the highest rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Bakersfield ranked as the 11th least healthy city in the country and the least healthy in California.
To determine which cities had the healthiest and least healthy populations, Forbes Advisor looked at data from the 50 most populated cities, 46 of which had available data.
Analysts looked at the number of heart disease deaths and opioid overdose deaths per 100,000 residents, percentage of adults with diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as the percentage of adults who reported physical inactivity, obesity, binge drinking and smoking. City population data came from the U.S. Census Bureau, while data for all metrics came from the City Health Dashboard.
