A woman who has been missing and feared dead in California for more than a year has been found in Colorado, according to Golden State authorities.

After an exhaustive, multi-agency search, Kelsey Pittman of North Carolina was found alive after a months-long search, the Inyo County Sheriff's Office announced on July 22.

Pittman, 33, was known to go by "Infinity Jane" or "Jane Jones," the Los Angeles Times reported.

She was reported missing by her family after losing contact with them in November 2024, the office said. The search for her led authorities to a remote off-the-grid community in the Sonoran Desert, where people have been known to become disoriented in the heat while hiking.

On Feb. 9 of this year, the sheriff's department was contacted by a person reporting a "suspicious" vehicle near "The Pads or Slab City," an unincorporated community near Death Valley National Park in Imperial County, where people are known to live off the grid.

Arriving deputies confirmed that the reported vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, was Pittman's. But after a thorough search of the vehicle and the area, there was no sign of Pittman, officials said.

The discovery in the Sonoran Desert became the catalyst for an extensive missing person investigation and search effort. Between February and June 2025 the Inyo Sheriff's Office coordinated with many law enforcement agencies, drone teams, cadaver dog handlers and volunteer search and rescue crews.

"Despite exhaustive ground and aerial searches, no additional physical evidence was found at the site," Inyo County Sheriff's Department Spokesperson Lindsey Stine said.

"Out of respect for her privacy and that of her family, no further details will be released."
