Toddler Left In Hot Car While Mom Got Lip Filler Dies: Reports
The toddler and his sibling were left in a car outside a Bakersfield spa on a 101-degree day, according to multiple news reports.
BAKERSFIELD, CA — A woman has been charged in connection with the death of her 1-year-old, whom she's suspected of leaving inside a hot car while she went and got a cosmetic procedure, according to multiple news reports.
Maya Hernandez, 20, left her 1-year-old son, Amillio Gutierrez, and his 2-year-old brother in the car while she got lip fillers at a Bakersfield medical spa on June 29, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times. The children were left in the car for at least 90 minutes, and the weather outside was 101 degrees, according to the report.
Hernandez told investigators she left the air conditioning on, but the vehice has an automatic shut- engine shut-off after one hour, ABC7 reported.

Bakersfield police said Hernandez placed "the value of her appearance over the safety and well-being of her children," according to the Los Angeles Times.
Martinez's mother, Katie, told ABC7 that she was devastated by her grandchild's death and was trying to wrap her head around the situation by sitting in a hot car to experience what her grandchildren must have gone through.

"They were strapped in their car seats. They couldn't even get up to save themselves," Martinez told ABC7. "She literally locked them in their car seats and shut their doors."
She described her daughter to ABC7 as a "loving mother" and said her actions were out of character.
Hernandez faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty. She is currently being held on over $1 million bail, according to the ABC7 report.
