California Given The Tsunami 'All-Clear' After Massive Earthquake In Russia

There has been a tsunami advisory issued for Alaska, and the West Coast was under evaluation, officials said.

The National Weather Service in the Bay Area has announced that there is no tsunami threat to the West Coast following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia Thursday afternoon.

The massive quake triggered a tsunami advisory for Alaska, and the entire West Coast of the United States was under evaluation to see if an advisory would be issued for the region, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

At around 11:58 a.m., NOAA reported there was a 7.8 earthquake 255 miles southwest of Komandorski, a Russian archipelago. It was quickly followed by several large aftershocks ranging from magnitude 5.1 to 5.8.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, parts of Alaska were under tsunami watch and the California coast was being evaluated for "the level of tsunami danger."

Shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service gave California the "all-clear."

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off Russia's eastern coast Friday evening but the National Weather Service U.S. Tsunami Warning System confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to the West Coast.
