CALIFORNIA — California has one of the nation’s highest thresholds for what’s considered an upper middle class income, according to a recent ranking from GOBankingRates.

The Golden State came in at 46th on the list. With a median household income of $96,334, Californians must earn at least $149,854 and no more than $192,668 to be considered upper middle class, according to the ranking.

California fell between Hawaii at 47th and New Hampshire at 45th in the ranking. In those states, the minimum income considered upper middle class is $152,939 and $148,756, respectively.
Maryland has the highest upper middle class income threshold, with a minimum income of $158,126, while Mississippi has the lowest at $85,424, according to the ranking.
