4 Rescued From Dangerous Waters By Helicopter In Ventura County

Heavy rain created hazardous conditions Thursday in Ventura County, requiring multiple helicopter rescues, authorities said.

VENTURA COUNTY, CA — Heavy rain made for dangerous conditions and a busy day for emergency crews in Ventura County, who conducted multiple water rescues Thursday.

A person clinging to bamboo branches and trapped by the rising floodwater of the Ventura River was hoisted to safety by a helicopter near Stanley Avenue in Ventura, the county fire department tweeted shortly before 11 a.m.

Several hours later, around 4 p.m., the department reported it had rescued three people via helicopter from an island in the Santa Clara River downstream from U.S. Route 101 near the River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.

Weather-related hazards plagued the area Thursday, with a falling tree tangling power lines in Calabasas and a sinkhole forming in Agoura Hills.
