Jordan Cohen , number one Remax agent whose sports clientele include include Lakers, tennis stars and football Ram greats says– “I represent a house on Westlake Island that fits this bill and has been home to a top decorator, an Oscar nominated producer and a New York Times Best-Selling author. Talent is in the bones of the house.”

On Westlake Island each house has a dock with its own boat. Franco Nero Italian film icon, and husband of Vanessa Redgrave visited the film producer who owns that home on Westlake Island and he said, “ You don’t live in a house, you live in a resort”. Other residents over time include Oscar winners George C. Scott, Mickey Rooney and musicians like Richie Sambora. Taking your boat to a local restaurant for dinner is part of the lifestyle experience for Island Residents.

There are 5 key money- making elements that not only help the sale and resale of a home, but also attract knowledgeable buyers and most importantly people who want to get the best out of their lives. Post pandemic and global warming has made people value the beauty of the world around them. “A house isn’t just a home, it is the heartbeat, the center of their lives”, says Jordan Cohen.

The big five, is the same list that attracts creative thinkers. Vice Chancellor Janet Kerr, founder of the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and Law has taught graduates that are CEO’s of top high tech companies says “ Westlake Village is a creative environment that stimulates thought and new ideas”.

So what exceptional qualities do people ranging from athletes to business executives and creatives look for when shopping for a home?

Water. Sunlight. High Ceilings. Privacy. View.

Stager, and decorator Leslie Silverman of Karma Home Accents agrees this list is what motivates buyers.

The Writersgreenhouse.blogspot quotes writer Meagan “ Every time we went house hunting, I insisted it had to be near water.” Famous rooms where writers penned their work, as varied as Ernest Hemingway’s house in the island of Key West to Beatrix Potter, author of Peter Rabbit, in the Lake District, are now museums. These private spaces, in multi-level homes near water is where the magic happens.

The National Association of Home Builders states high ceilings add … to the house price. And Fast Company Magazine has an article “Why our brains love high ceilings”. Not only do high ceilings create a sense of spaciousness, but researchers have said that high ceilings give a sense of phycological freedom, a big plus when so many of us were home bound during the pandemic.

In 2022 a new figure was released that 30.6 per cent of home buyers are attracted to privacy. Westlake Island, as it is surrounded by water, with a guard gate, adds an extra level of security in a national environment that is rampant with home invasions. The Island remains safer than many communities because of the natural geography that also helps protect it from wild fires.

For Leslie, the owner of Karma Home Accents and a Westlake island resident, “it is about nature, and living in such a beautiful place. The island is a hidden gem and you don’t know it is there unless you are invited.” Leslie began by working on the island, and once she visited, dreamed of making it her home. Now it is her reality.

The sunrise and sunset views across Westlake Island show a myriad of wildlife glistening on and over the lake. A great view can add five to ten percent more to a home, than a similar home without a view. And as Jordan Cohen says, “ A great view is priceless”.

Inventive people invent in their homes no matter where they live. Julie Tamor, creator of the stage hit, Lion King, and writer, director of opera, and film says, “I am creative in my living space.”

But you don’t have to be a film-maker, a decorator, or best-selling author to live on Westlake Island. You just have to be you.
