Agoura Adds 42 Residents

The California Department of Finance released estimated population numbers Wednesday.

The Department of Finance released population estimate numbers for January 2012 Wednesday as well as state rankings for the 482 cities within California.

Each city was ranked by population size and of the 482 cities, 412 saw gains while 68 had a decrease in population.

Agoura Hills only saw an increase in its population base by 42 residents or a .2 percent increase since January 2011. Agoura comes in as the 292nd largest city in California.

So does a small growth in population impact the city in any way?

"It's pretty normal for populations to fluctuate, and our numbers are low anyway compared to the rest of the region," Assistant City Manager Nathan Hamburger told the Agoura Hills Patch following the release of the 2010 census.

The Agoura Hills City Council tends to plan city programs around the needs of the people rather than basing them on demographics, Hamburger said.
