One City, One Book 2012

This year, the City will celebrate 'Born to Run' by Christopher McDougall.

The City of Agoura Hills' 2012 One City, One Book literary program celebrates bestselling author Christopher McDougall and his inspirational book Born to Run.

The public is invited to participate in a week of special events designed for all ages based on the theme of the bestseller. Some of the events will include participation and appearances by McDougall.

Born to Run is an epic adventure about the author’s quest to understand the lost art of natural running, taking readers to the reclusive Tarahumara Indians of Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons. For centuries the Indians have practiced techniques that allow them to run hundreds of miles without rest and chase down anything from a deer to an Olympic marathoner while enjoying every mile.

This year’s One City One Book Program events will promote the author’s idea that happiness might be right at everyone’s feet.

“We selected Born to Run because of its inspirational focus and how it ties in with Agoura Hills’s Healthy City Program,” said Mayor John Edelston. “We have one of the most scenic terrains for running and Born to Run is a great match for our community and outdoor culture.”
