Celebrate Latino Conservation Week At The Santa Monica Mountains

AGOURA HILLS, CA — Latino Conservation Week is nearly over, but there's still time to catch an outdoor movie at Paramount Ranch or a party in LA State Historic Park.

At 8 p.m. on Saturday, the Santa Monica Mountains Foundation will screen "The Girl From Mexico" at Paramount Ranch, located at 2903 Cornell Rd. The movie will be screened at the train station following a film history tour at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights and snacks. Chairs will be provided at Paramount Ranch.

"The Girl From Mexico" is a 1939 film stars Lupe Velez and follows the story of an advertising executive on the hunt for talent in Mexico.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nature for All Coalition, Sierra Club and Latino outdoors will host a party at LA State Historic Park, located at 1245 N Spring St. The event will feature music, food, nature walks and more.

Latino Conservation Week started on Saturday, kicking off a week of celebrations across California. The annual celebration started in 2014 to "support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources," according to Latino Conservation Week's Website. Every year, local non-profit, faith-based, community and government organizations host events to celebrate the outdoors.

The week was created by the Hispanic Access Foundation, an organization that uplifts Latinos through community partnerships to increase financial literacy, professional opportunities, health and more.

The Santa Monica Mountains helped kick off Latino Conservation Week on Saturday with a day of fun at the visitor center. Guests took bilingual guided hikes and heard from guest speakers.
