Green Fair Introduces Innovative Ideas

Green-minded organizations from all over the area converged at the and gave residents innovative and interesting ideas on sustainable living.

Organized by the Los Angeles County Public Library, the City's first Sustainable Living and Environmental Fair offered information about solar energy, water conservation, organic growing, vegan cooking and even beekeeping. The fair represented a unique public-private partnership, bringing government and businesses together to provide the best information for consumers, according organizer Matthew Rose from the LA County Public Library

During the event, Sen. Fran Pavley, known for her green legislation, said a few words and offered her ten green tips to the community.

• Look for fuel efficient vehicles

• Use reusible shopping bags

• Look for the Energy Star for all your appliances

• Try to reduce the size of your lawn

• Always recycle

• Add ceiling fans or plant deciduous trees for shade

• Shop at the farmers market

• Reduce your use of plastics

• Use reusible drinking containers

• Encourage local officials to adopt sustainable, environmental practices
