LVUSD Extends Superintendent's Contract

The Board of Education of the Las Virgenes Unified School District publicly recognized strong leadership skills and exceptional communication capabilities by unanimously voting to extend the contract of Superintendent Daniel Stepenosky through Aug. 1, 2018.

“We are very pleased with Dr. Stepenosky’s leadership and the direction in which he is moving LVUSD,” said Jill Gaines, School Board president. “Stepenosky is focused on maintaining the highest quality of education, incorporating the new state standards and technology, while also focusing on the whole child.”

Stepenosky has served two years of a three-year contract. During his first two years, Stepenosky has focused on the academic achievement of all district students. This includes the development of the Local Control Accountability Plan and the LVUSD Strategic Technology Plan, a curriculum transition to Common Core, and a continued focus on ensuring choice and options for students and families.

He has also worked to build solid and positive relationships with the four cities that feed into the Las Virgenes schools.

“I am very excited to continue the amazing work of supporting student success. Every day in every school the staff is laser focused on providing cutting edge instruction that promotes student academic achievement,“ Stepenosky said. “This is a very special place to work, live and raise a family.”

Additionally, Stepenosky is one of 150 superintendents nationwide to be invited to join the National Suburban Schools Superintendents group. Suburban School Superintendents is a select group of superintendents from across the nation, representing the top 1 percent of highest performing school districts.

The group was founded in 1964 by Ken Peters, superintendent of Beverly Hills Unified School District. Bud Marley, a former Superintendent of Las Virgenes Unified School District, served as the president of this professional organization from 1994-1995.

Their mission is to ensure excellence in public education through sharing best practices of instruction, curriculum development, technology infusion into the classroom, and effective partnerships with community.

“It is a thrill and an honor to have been nominated and selected into this group of amazing educational leaders,” said Stepenosky.

Stepenosky and his wife, Sharon, are 12-year residents of Calabasas, and their two children attend school in Las Virgenes.
