Overturned Big Rig Spills 23,000 Pounds Of Cargo In Thousand Oaks

An overturned big rig, a hazmat spill and 23,000 pounds of cargo backed up the State Route 101 in Thousand Oaks Thursday morning.

AGOURA HILLS, CA — A traffic accident involving an overturned big rig caused backups on the State Route 101 (Ventura Freeway) Thursday morning in Thousand Oaks, according to the California Department of Transportation, District 7.

The accident, which was reported around 8 a.m. on the southbound Ventura Freeway at Lynn Road, created a hazmat spill and put 23,000 pounds of cargo into the freeway. The right lane was closed for multiple hours to clean up the material.

Around 150 feet of guardrail on the freeway was damaged, according to CalTrans District 7.

Two lanes of the freeway at Lynn Road were still closed as of 3 p.m. There was significant traffic on the southbound freeway leading up to Lynn Road as of 6 p.m.
