Water District Offers New Rebate Program

Just in time for summer, (LVMWD) is rolling out a new front yard turf removal and landscape runoff elimination program that will provide a maximum incentive up to $2,500 to qualifying participants. Called “Mow No Mow,” the new water-saving incentives are available to single-family homeowners in the LVMWD service area who pre-apply in order to participate.

“This exciting new incentive can be a major step ahead for water efficiency in the Las Virgenes service area,” said John R. Mundy, LVMWD’s general manager. “It will save money for customers, reduce urban runoff from improper watering and help the water district make inroads toward the state mandate to reduce water use 20 percent by the year 2020.” A survey conducted in the LVMWD service area shows that nearly 70 percent of all water delivered to its customers is used outdoors and many customers over water, causing runoff into storm drains.

Details on how to qualify for the “Mow No Mow” program are available on the District’s website, under the “Conservation” section that includes rebate programs. Information is also available at District headquarters at 4232 Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas. The rebate program is jointly funded by LVMWD, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the California Department of Water Resources and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

LVMWD also offers a free colorful catalog of native and “California Friendly” plants that can be attractive replacements for water-thirsty turf areas while using little or no water from irrigation systems. The plant guide is available on line or in print at District Headquarters.

LVMWD provides potable water to residents and businesses in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Westlake Village and adjacent unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County including Chatsworth and the Santa Monica Mountains.
