Alameda Students Recognized For Gender Neutral Restroom App

The app, which helps people find restrooms that are gender neutral, won a congressional award.

ALAMEDA, CA -- An app created by Alameda students that help people find gender neutral restrooms won a congressional award. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, announced recently that the GNR: Restroom for All app created by students at Alameda Science and Technology Institute won the congressional award in the 13th district.

The team was comprised of Hannah Barr, Jui-Han Yang, Raymond Huang, and Vivian Phung.

Lee's office said the students used different programs to create the app that alleviates "pressures on those who do not identify with the two primary genders. Having friends who face this situation daily, the team realized how hard finding restrooms can be. The app they created spits out gender neutral restrooms based on a given zip code."
