Contractor Hits, Breaks Alameda Water Main Friday Night

No one was required to boil water because of the break.

ALAMEDA, CA — A contractor struck and broke a 6-inch water main Friday evening in Alameda sending a geyser of water into the air, a spokeswoman with the East Bay Municipal Utility District said.

At about 9 p.m., utility crews had found the valve that would turn off the water to the main that broke near Singleton Avenue and Main Street. EBMUD spokeswoman Nelsy Rodriguez said everyone still had water as
of 9 p.m. but once workers turn the valve some people may lose service.

The City of Alameda owns the pipes in the city but has an agreement with the utility district to maintain the pipes, Rodriguez said.
