Father Killed In East Bay Shooting Was 'In The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time,' Family Says
The man was one of three people gunned down along International Boulevard in Oakland during the early hours of Jan. 3, his family said.
OAKLAND, CA — The family of a man killed during a shooting in the East Bay over the weekend is asking for the public's help in raising funds for memorial costs.
The man, whose identity has yet to be publicly revealed, was one of three people shot and killed in the 8400 block of International Boulevard around 3 a.m. Saturday. It's unclear what sparked the shooting or who shot the victims.
But the man's family said in a statement on GoFundMe that he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"One moment he was here, and the next he was gone. No warning. No chance to say goodbye," his children said in the GoFundMe statement. "Our hearts are broken, and we’re doing our best to lean on God to get through this pain."
Detectives from the Oakland Police Department are still investigating the shooting and ask that anyone with more information contact the department at 510-238-3821 or leave tips at 510-238-7950.

"Our dad didn’t deserve this," his children said. "He wasn’t involved in anything just someone going about his life. He was a father, a loved one, and a man who mattered. The way he was taken doesn’t define who he was."
The GoFundMe had raised $8,674 out of its $6,000 goal as of Tuesday morning.
