DUI Suspected In Fatal Crash That Pushed Car Over I-80
A pileup on the I-80 in the Albany area sent a car rolling off the freeway to the street below, killing one person and closing the freeway.
ALBANY, CA — A suspected DUI driver was arrested early Friday after a one person died in a collision that pushed their car off Interstate Highway 80 and onto an Albany street below the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. on eastbound I-80 near the Buchanan Street offramp.
The driver of a Toyota Camry was reportedly driving recklessly and allegedly caused a collision between his car, a big rig truck and a Hyundai Elantra, the CHP said.

The Elantra fell off the freeway and landed on its roof on Buchanan Street, according to the CHP. The car's driver, an Oakland man, died at the scene. His name was not released.
Officers arrested the driver of the Camry, an El Cerrito resident, on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was not injured in the collision.

The driver of the big rig was also uninjured, the CHP said. The collision is still under investigation.
All lanes on eastbound I-80 were closed after the crash, but gradually reopened about two hours later.
