Cold Custard, Slacking Soda Sales and Set Designers Making a Difference

Here are five fascinating things for Aliso residents to ponder on Friday, Aug. 2:

  1. How fast can you solve a Rubik's Cube? (Your humble editor cannot solve one at all!) Well, an Aliso Viejo teen has caught the cubing bug. He can finish in less than 23 seconds. See him in action here.
  2. Check out the food trucks feeding South County last night at Laguna Hills High. Different trucks arrive each Thursday evening from 5:30-8:30.
  3. Cambria Browne has a rare disease and her mother Danielle can’t leave the bedroom. Saddleback College set design students are helping create princess cut outs to keep the pair cheerful.
  4. If you're a fan of cold custard, or Pennsylvania, or just like vertical green stripes, you'll want to know about Orange County's first Rita's location. It's now open in the Kaleidoscope off Crown Valley.
  5. Have soda sales gone flat? Last year, the average American guzzled 44 gallons of soda, down from 54 gallons a year in 1998. Analysts cite health concerns and an industry shift toward non-carbonated drinks. Have you cut your soda consumption? Tell us in the comments.
