From the Community: Don Juan Elementary Honors Veterans
Students interact with veterans and honor their service.
What a wonderful Veteran's Celebration at in Aliso Viejo.
The morning kicked off with a welcome from Principal Shawn Lohman, followed by the posting of colors from U.S. Marine Corps. The audience had the honor of hearing from two decorated WWII veterans — Joe Aiello and Edward Pazdur. Accounts of their service, as well as some very personal stories, kept the children interested and the adults mesmerized.
The fifth grade class recited a poem that they dedicated to the veterans and the third graders sang "America the Beautiful." To close, Military Taps was played and the colors were retired as all stood and the veterans saluted.

The wonderful event was organized by first grade teacher Mary Wilson. The veterans were then escorted to various classrooms were they could visit with the children and answer their questions. Finally, refreshments provided by and were enjoyed by all.
