Come Play 'What's That Tree?'

With 54 varieties growing in Aliso Viejo, identifying them can be hard. We'll do it for you.

Within the six square miles of Aliso Viejo live 54 varieties of trees.

The landscaping design, originally developed by the Mission Viejo Co., caters to the community's residential and professional lifestyles.

According to Kirk Elliot, parks and landscape director for the Aliso Viejo Community Association, the city's soil welcomes a new variety of tree every year. The number of trees also grows -- during the annual Arbor Day celebration. This year, 30 to 40 trees (6 to 8 feet high) will be added to local parks.

Arbor Day has been celebrated since 2008 in Aliso Viejo and usually welcomes 75-100 participants. This year, it will be celebrated April 27.
