Volunteer Deputy, Drug-Sniffing Dog Shown Some Love This Week

The city seeks more time to respond to a developer and the chief of police is honored for his service to Aliso Viejo.

The Aliso Viejo City Council will meet publicly at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Find out what's happening at the meeting here:

  1. The city wants more time to respond to Shea Properties' proposal to convert 10 vacant acres across from the Renaissance Hotel into affordable housing and a new hotel.
  2. Outgoing police chief Bob Osborne will be honored. Osborne has served as chief since April 2009. Under his command, the City achieved its lowest crime rate since its 2001 incorporation.
  3. City staff will ask for $25,000 for a contractor to find a new City Manager.
  4. The city attorney wants $60,000 to hire a real estate expert to advise the city in evaluating various real estate and development constraints throughout Aliso.
  5. Reserve Lieutenant Doug Williams and his drug-sniffing partner "Luna" have volunteered more than 600 hours to Aliso Viejo over the past four years. Together they've conducted more than 70 searches locating drugs such as methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana, and they will be honored Wednesday.
